A fantastic introduction to Number Theory that can be enjoyed by all ages.
When I was at school I had no idea what Number Theory was all about. It seemed like this overly complex area of math that had no meaningful purpose. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Number Theory is Mathematic's foundation. It a study of the most familiar numbers - the Natural Numbers - and all the unexpected wealth of knowledge that surrounds them. Number theory underpins most of discrete mathematics - the math used by computers to perform calculations under the hood - and has far reaching applications in Cryptography - the science underpinning secure messaging, RSA, PGP, and much more. Long story short, you couldn't send a private message without Number theory.
In this fantastic video by College Professor, and widely renowned YouTube Mathematician, Michael Penn, you will see number theory in action. Michael presents a basic example that illustrates how to use numberical logic to strategically eliminate possibilities in order to arrive at a set of numbers that satisfies the problem on screen.
If you're a school student who knows how to factor quadratics then you have the know-how to follow along and see first-hand what Number Theory is all about.
