Education and Teaching Expertise
Over the past 15 years, working as both high school maths tutor and university maths tutor, I've had the privilege of helping students of all ages and abilities build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and achieve academic goals. My experience ranges from supporting struggling learners who need to rebuild their mathematical foundations to guiding high-achieving students prepare for exams. This breadth of experience has given me a deep understanding of the different ways that students think about mathematics and the importance of adapting my approach to suit each individual’s learning style.
At university I've studied a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, a Bachelor of Information Technology, and a Bachelor of Software Engineering. This has given me a strong foundation in advanced mathematics, logical reasoning, and analytical problem-solving. My academic background has deepened my understanding of mathematical concepts such as proofs, logic, algebra, functions, differential equations, complex and real analysis, number theory, graph theory, probability, statistics, and calculus. The technical and theoretical knowledge gained through years of study allows me to connect mathematics to real-world applications in science, technology, and engineering — helping me convey to students the relevance and beauty of what they learn.
In addition to mathematics, I bring extensive experience in programming and computational thinking, having worked with languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, Lua, and JSON, as well as programs including MATLAB, Visual Studio, Unity, Blender, and the Adobe Creative Suite. These skills have enhance my ability to teach mathematical modeling, data analysis, and problem-solving from both a theoretical and practical perspective. My interdisciplinary background allows me to show students how mathematics underpins fields like engineering, computer science, and design — broadening their appreciation for the subject and its applications.
As an online maths tutor, I’ve worked with both Australian and international students, adapting lessons to suit different curricula and learning styles. My teaching method is rooted in clarity, patience, and connection. I focus on breaking complex concepts into simple, logical steps, encouraging students to understand the “why” behind the methods rather than just memorizing formulae. I use real-world examples and visual aids to make abstract ideas more tangible, and I emphasize consistent practice and reflection to reinforce learning. Over the years, I’ve learned that confidence is just as important as knowing the content.
Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. Helping them overcome that barrier has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Teaching maths has taught me the value of empathy, adaptability, and lifelong learning.
What Sets Me Apart
Tutoring is my livelihood and I treat it with the utmost respect. As a full-time experienced maths tutor, my priority is the education of my students, and I go above and beyond to ensure they succeed.
I provide a level of flexibility and personalised support that is difficult to achieve in classroom settings or large tutoring organisations. As your private maths tutor, you won’t receive recycled, rote explanations. Instead, I offer a diverse range of approaches, carefully tailored to each student’s individual needs. I also take the time to understand how each of my students learn best, adjusting my pace and teaching style accordingly, to make every lesson as effective as possible.
I encourage active participation and feedback, ensuring students feel comfortable and engaged, and offer additional lessons during exam and assessment periods, making myself available when students need the extra support. With me as your tutor, no question goes unanswered. If a problem has not been answered to your satisfaction during a lesson, you will receive a detailed explanation of the solution in the form of a written document or video recording.
I believe in thorough support, so lessons will not end abruptly just because the time is up. The topic or problem at hand will be finalised to the best of my ability, even if that means going overtime. I also understand how frustrating it can be to get stuck on a problem and then have to wait an entire week to ask your tutor for help. This is why I encourage students to reach out between lessons with any issues that are holding them back. I make it a point to respond promptly — typically within a day or two.
Additional services like these are rarely offered by private tutors or tutoring agencies — agency policy prevents tutors from providing support outside lessons. The exceptional level of support I provide, along with my flexibility, sincerity, attention to detail, and ability to actively engage students, is what truly sets me apart as a fantastic maths tutor.
For Australian students, lessons are designed to fully support the Australian Mathematics Curriculum, ensuring students meet learning standards at every level. I often incorporate challenging problems inspired by competitions and resources from the Australian Maths Trust. I also provide additional resources to help students explore topics independently, such as Maths is Fun for interactive explanations and exercises.
If you're looking for an experienced maths tutor, whether as a private maths tutor for one-on-one support, an online maths tutor for flexibility, or a specialist high school maths tutor or university maths tutor, I’m here to help you achieve your goals!
