The Math Cocoon offers a range of educational services to students at all levels. Services are delivered as one-on-one mathematics tuition, offered both in person in Victoria, Australia, and online to students worldwide.

Diophantus
250 AD

Diophantus was an ancient Greek mathematician often called the “father of algebra” for his pioneering work in solving equations. He wrote the Arithmetica, a collection of problems that systematically explored what are now known as Diophantine equations—polynomial equations seeking integer solutions. His methods introduced symbolic reasoning and set the stage for algebraic notation centuries later. Standard Lesson

The Standard Lesson provides one-on-one tutoring at a rate $85 per hour. This session is ideal for students who want focused, targeted support on specific topics and concepts. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs – ensuring that learning is efficient, clear, and productive.

Double Lesson

The Double Lesson offers two hours of intensive tutoring at a rate of $75 per hour, reflecting a $20 discount. This extended session is suitable for students who need extra time to tackle more complex topics or consolidate multiple areas of study in a single sitting.

Triple Lesson

The Triple Lesson offers three hours of uninterrupted tutoring at a rate of $65 per hour, reflecting a $60 discount. This session is ideal for students who require substantial time to work through complex topics, complete comprehensive revision, or consolidate multiple areas of study in a single focused sitting.

Workshop

The Workshop is an intensive four-hour lesson designed for focused learning and exam preparation. Priced at $55 per hour, it provides a structured environment where each hour is used purposefully to target specific learning goals and maximise progress.

Bootcamp

The Bootcamp is a six-hour full-day intensive lesson designed for students who want to make significant progress in a single session. Priced at $45 per hour, it allows for deep consolidation of knowledge and the development of confidence in a focused, high-output learning environment.

✶ For both Workshops and Bootcamps, students are encouraged to submit the content they wish to cover at least one week in advance. This allows time to prepare a tailored lesson plan designed to maximise the effectiveness of the session.

Bertrand Russell
1872 – 1970

Russell was a British mathematician, logician, and philosopher whose work laid the foundations for modern logic and set theory. He co-authored Principia Mathematica, formalizing mathematics with Alfred North Whitehead and developing symbolic logic to rigorously derive arithmetic from logical principles. Russell made key contributions to type theory, the study of paradoxes, and the philosophy of mathematics, clarifying the structure and limits of formal systems. Bernhard Riemann
1826 – 1866

Riemann was a German mathematician whose groundbreaking work reshaped geometry, analysis, and number theory. He developed Riemannian geometry, providing the foundation for modern differential geometry and influencing Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Riemann made significant contributions to complex analysis, introducing the concept of Riemann surfaces, and advanced the study of prime numbers with the Riemann zeta function, which became central to analytic number theory. Renowned for his deep insight and abstract thinking, his discoveries profoundly influenced pure mathematics and its applications for generations.

Weekend Bootcamp

The Weekend Bootcamp provides two days of intensive learning, with six hours of instruction per day. Priced at $35 per hour, this session is perfect for exam preparation or for gaining a comprehensive and structured overview of an upcoming subject. It provides an excellent opportunity for students looking to build a strong foundation and gain confidence early - offering a strategic advantage for those whose results play a critical role in university acceptance.

Group Lesson

Group Lessons are a collaborative tutoring option designed for students who prefer learning with others or are looking for a more affordable way to access support. Priced at $40 per person (minimum of 2 students), these sessions are ideal for classmates who want to organise a shared lesson focused on the same subject. If only one student attends, the standard lesson rate applies. Group Lessons encourage discussion, shared problem-solving, and learning through different approaches while still maintaining structured, targeted teaching.

Video Tutorial

Students receive a recorded video explaining worked solutions to preselected maths problems, valued at $60 per hour. Delivered via an unlisted YouTube link, the video is accessible for one month and is strictly for the student’s personal use. Students are only charged for the time it takes the tutor to record the video – not for preparation or editing time.

Written Exposition

Students receive a handwritten document containing carefully worked solutions to preselected maths problems, valued at $50 per hour. The duration of this service depends on the number and complexity of questions selected by the student.

✶ Both Video Tutorials and Written Expositions are billed in 30-minute intervals, starting at 60 minutes. These services cater to students who enjoy learning from clear, annotated notes or prefer a self-paced learning environment. Students who are too busy or too anxious to attend live tutorials may find this style of learning to be more natural and effective.

Olga Ladyzhenskaya
1922 – 2004

Ladyzhenskaya was a Russian mathematician whose work profoundly advanced the theory of partial differential equations and mathematical physics. She made groundbreaking contributions to the study of fluid dynamics, particularly the Navier–Stokes equations, and developed fundamental results on the existence, uniqueness, and smoothness of solutions to nonlinear problems. Ladyzhenskaya also advanced functional analysis and applied mathematical methods, influencing both theory and computation. Renowned for her rigorous reasoning and deep insight, her discoveries shaped modern analysis and the mathematical understanding of fluid mechanics for generations.

Alan Turing
1912 – 1954

Turing was a British mathematician and logician whose work laid the foundations of modern computer science and theoretical mathematics. He formalized the concept of computation with the Turing machine, proving that certain problems are undecidable, and developed key ideas in algorithmic theory and computability. Turing made pioneering contributions to cryptography, including breaking the Enigma code during World War II, and advanced mathematical biology with models of morphogenesis. Renowned for his profound intellect and innovative thinking, his discoveries profoundly influenced mathematics, computation, and the development of modern technology.

Yearly Discount

The Yearly Discount provides a 20% discount that is subject to specific conditions. To qualify, students must commit to weekly tuition for the entire calendar year (excluding Christmas and New Year’s week) and have attended at least four lessons within four consecutive weeks at the Standard Lesson price.

To remain on the Yearly Discount, any missed lessons must be paid for in full, unless the student can show a valid doctor’s certificate. A missed lesson can be moved to the following week, however it will not replace that weeks lesson. This can be done one missed lesson at a time.

This offer delivers significant savings while maximizing learning benefits. Availability is subject to change and at the discretion of the tutor.

Free Lesson

Clients who refer a new student will receive a complimentary Standard Lesson once that student has completed a paid lesson. This can be a valuable way to save tutoring costs while helping a friend gain access to educational support.
